Baked Potato with Boss Sauce

Baked Potato with Boss Sauce was such a fun recipe to create. We missed our old classic baked potato with cheese but didn’t want all the harmful ingredients found in the super market brand cheese sauce.

Our Baked Potato with Boss Sauce is made with ingredients you can pronounce like cashews, red peppers, and nutritional yeast. Store bought cheese sauce has hydrogenated soybean oil, caramel color, yellow 5 and yellow 6 and lets not forget the dreaded MSG. Those ingredients can cause so much havoc on our bodies and just isn’t worth it!

 

All you need to make this Boss Sauce is a good blender and you’ll have this made in 5 minutes.

You might be asking what is Nutritional Yeast? Nutritional Yeast has a strong flavor that is described as nutty or cheesy, which makes it popular as an ingredient in cheese substitutes. Often when we share this recipe with someone trying to eat healthy they think this yeast is the active yeast used in making bread, it’s NOT! Although it has an unappealing name and appearance, nutritional yeast flakes are great for anyones diet. It provides a wealth of vitamins and minerals while at the same time adding a unique flavor to many dishes. You can find Nutritional Yeast at most grocery stores or click the link to find it on Amazon. Many health food stores carry it in the bulk department area.

 

It was fun the first time we made this at Nan’s house together. Her son and a friend came home for lunch and asked what we were making. We asked if they wanted to eat this Baked Potato with Boss Sauce? Of course, they always are hungry teenagers and gobbled it right down. Afterwards, we told them it wasn’t real cheese. They couldn’t believe it and loved it. It’s so fun creating recipes that mimic the flavors they enjoy. We hope you enjoy this alternative cheese sauce as much as our family does!

Boss Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups raw cashews
  • cup roasted red peppers
  • 2 tablespoon lemon juice
  • ¾ cup water
  • 1 ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup nutritional yeast
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • pinch of turmeric

Instructions

  1. Place all the ingredients into a high-powered blender, process until smooth.
  2. Transfer to a sauce pan, heat Boss Sauce up on medium low on your stove top until warm. If you feel the sauce is too thick, just add a little water.
  3. Use in any recipe that calls for cheese sauce. Excellent over potatoes and steamed vegetables.

    1. Unfortunately this is what makes the cheese flavor. You can make it without but it would taste more like a cream sauce.

  1. Have you tried making this with other nuts? We have a cashew allergy in our home. I’d love to try this but don’t want to significantly alter the outcome if we attempt with another nut.

  2. I made it and love it!! Would it be unhealthy to eat it like soup😊? It’s just so delicious! I rather enjoy the boss sauce on my scrambled eggs! I think I would like it with shrimp too! Definitely becoming a staple in my house! Thank you!

    1. We love it over any roasted vegetables too. Make a great dip if you add Rotel diced tomatoes. The possibilities are endless.

  3. Where is the actual recipe? All I see are photos and a few paragraphs about the sauce, but no ingredient list and amounts. Also, what is a good substitute for the red peppers? My girls don’t like them.
