Healthy Taco Seasoning

Making your own Healthy Taco Seasoning isn’t that hard to do and is SO much better for you than what you can pick up at the store. Reading what they add to those small and expensive taco packets is scary, when you can’t pronounce the ingredients you know its probably not good for you.

We like to make this in large containers and store it along side our other spices, so its ready when we need it.

Try doing some prep work and brown 6-10 pounds of hamburger at a time and seasoning it with the Healthy Taco Seasoning. You’re cooking anyways, why not cook extra for a future dinner. Then divide them into individual family servings, with our large families we like to do 2 pounds at a time when we freeze them. Then the night before we pull them out of the freezer and place them in the refrigerator, by dinner time it’s perfect and just needs to be reheated! Anything we can do to save time in the kitchen is a bonus. Our kids also like to have the seasoned meat on hand to make nachos, salads, or tacos.

These tacos are one of our favorites. We love them because we ditch the flour shell and use lettuce as the shell instead. We really like to use butter lettuce or the baby romaine lettuce you find at Costco. If you haven’t been using the baby romaine from Costco, you’re missing out. They stay fresh forever and make the cutest tacos. Featured in this recipe is taco meat made with Healthy Taco Seasoning, butter lettuce, tomatoes, onions, avocado, Dump Ranch and cilantro. Dump ranch is a must when making tacos!!

Healthy Taco Seasoning

Ingredients

  • garlic powder
  • onion powder
  • chili powder
  • cumin
  • red pepper flakes to desired heat
  • salt optional

Instructions

  1. Add equal parts garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, and cumin. Then add red pepper flakes to desired heat.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons of this mixture, plus 1/2 cup water to every pound of cooked meat. Simmer over medium het until the liquid is absorbed.

    I just stumbled upon your page and found my way to your healthy taco seasoning!! Praise the LAWWWD for this recipe! I always feel awful after using store-bought taco seasoning and the sodium content is unreal!! I’m obsessed with Kite Hill cream cheese and have found that the plain mixed with taco seasoning is TO DIE FOR in any Mexican dish! (Kite Hill for me, sounds like your dump ranch - I put that ish on everything!!) Haha! 😍 I’d LOVE to know what you guys think about Kite Hill mixed with your seasoning! It’s like “already seasoned sour cream” for any Mexican dish! I can’t wait to get home and try it!
